About Me

I have always been interested in baking from a very young age and started off with cupcakes and fairy cakes. However, since 2010 I started to try my hand at celebration cakes for my nephew Charlie's birthday. Things really started to take off when I got engaged to my husband in 2011 and I was determined that I would be good enough to make a three-tiered wedding cake for our big day. Despite my husbands' worries that it would create stress closer to the day, I started to make celebration cakes for family, friends and colleagues; developing my skills with fondant along the way. By the time of our wedding in May 2013 I had made over 50 cakes for birthdays, celebrations and weddings; including our very own three-tiered Lovebird themed wedding cake (left).

I love baking and creating cakes for people so much that I decided to continue. I like to think that I have my own unique style, especially when it comes to character cakes and designs.

Our Wedding Cake

I had never done a three-tiered cake before making our own wedding cake. It required lots of practice and research.

I started off by making a trial cake (a top tier) of what I thought it might look like. I loved the idea of adding lovebirds as a topper and in the end that actually became the theme of our whole wedding.

I spent many hours planning the cake, changing elements of it and even drawing mini sketches of how the cake would look. I investigated how to dowel the cake, the support it would need and how I would eventually get it to the venue.
On the week of the wedding I spent a day baking the layers of the cake and a day on decoration. The cake was made of 10", 8" and 6" layers which were both chocolate and vanilla sponge. I covered each cake with ivory fondant icing and added white flower detail to each tier. I used coral satin ribbon and pearl strings to each layer. I made the lovebirds at the start of the week so they would have time to dry out and harden. They were added to the top of the cake as the final decoration.
